a new way to riff

August 11, 2026

gm.

it's been a minute. and in that minute, we shipped a whole bunch of stuff.

the headlines: a timeline view that gives you a focused space to work on a single stack; and an MPC-style sampler for chopping and editing samples or creating your own kits.

let's get into it.

new features

zoom in to lock in

A stack open in the full-screen timeline editor

once you've locked in on an idea, timeline is where you go deep. it lets you move out of the infinite canvas and into a focused, full-screen editor for your stack, giving you room to arrange, tighten, and actually finish the track you're working on.

MPC-style sampler

The riffle drum sampler with backlit pads and the waveform editor

chop and edit samples, build custom kits with your voice/recordings, or use it to make beats live. you can also customize your kits by trimming it, changing the pitch/volume, and more.

  • record directly into any pad, or drag a sample onto it.
  • trim where it starts and ends, control how long it plays, change its pitch and volume, or make it stop when another pad is played.
  • make and save custom kits and use them on any board.

start from a template

Featured templates on the riffle home screen

if the blank canvas is staring back at you, check out the featured templates on the home screen, pick one that inspires something and spin up a board. more are on the way, and soon you'll be able to make and share your own.

colour, hold, and glide

Colour, hold, and glide macros on the MIDI keyboard

three new controls, right on the MIDI keyboard. 'colour' makes the sound brighter or darker, 'hold' makes the note stay for longer, and 'glide' makes every note... well, glide into each other.

drops play right on your board

A riffle drop playing on a board

paste any public drop link onto your canvas and it becomes a playable drop. same as dropping in a youtube or spotify link.

enhancements

  • you can now merge two clips together into one.
  • sous chef can read your MIDI now.
  • sous chef tailors how it talks to you based on your experience level and the kind of artist/creator you are.
  • big boards and large stacks are now snappier, and the app loads faster.
  • automatic fades on playback and trimmed clips.

fixes

  • the loop bar no longer stops playback or jumps the playhead when you drag it.
  • asking sous chef to analyze a long, high-quality clip no longer fails halfway through.
  • youtube and spotify embeds were briefly broken for some links. that's fixed now.

that's enough yapping from us. go put this stuff to work.
