gm,

we've been heads down since our last dispatch, which usually means one of two things: something's fixed, or something's cooking. this time, it's a bit of both. let's dig in.

highlights

sous chef writes MIDI now

Sous Chef writing a chord progression onto a new track

sous chef learned to write in a new language. ask it for a chord progression, bassline, drum beat, or whatever your heart desires, and it'll write the notes straight onto a new track. it can also rewrite notes on a clip you already have.

get chatty with your collaborators

A collaborator typing a message right next to their cursor on a stack

why leave comments when your collaborator is right there? just hit forward slash (/) and start typing. active collaborators will see your message pop up right next to your cursor, and can reply the same way.

find your sound, faster

The presets panel opening on the left, browsing categories and searching for bass

finding the right instrument preset no longer requires heavy duty attention. click the library icon next to the selected preset's name to search and preview sounds for that instrument. we've grouped them into categories, so hopping from keys to synths to guitars will be a lot less of a hunt.

pro-tip: you can also drop any sample into the sampler and it'll chop it into a new kit you can save and use on any board.

big fixes

  • riffle is now more stable on Safari and Firefox.
  • audio input settings now stick around for your entire session.

enhancements

  • rename, delete, and organise your samples and folders in My Samples.
  • listen to a drop while you're browsing other pages.
  • sous chef is faster, less yappy, and more autonomous. tell it what you want, and it'll cook in relative silence.
  • when you convert a loop into MIDI, riffle first identifies the instruments in the audio before MIDI-fying them. this means you can now work with each part individually instead of untangling the whole thing yourself.
